I am someone who could say I am creative, artistic, and ambitious. When someone asks me why I'm going to college, it gives me pause. I think a lot of us are made to feel we need to know what we are doing right out of high school. To be honest, I had some trouble figuring that out for a while. Toward the very end of high school, I had the vision of achieving a degree in music. I play guitar and have for the last several years. I enjoy guitar, and overall, I love music. When I began at Rock Valley College right after high school, I had a change of heart because I did not see myself going into the industry or starting a career in music. It was a bit unsettling when I realized that is not what I wanted to do with my life. I thought long and hard about what my next move would be, college or no college?
I took many different classes trying to find my niche: agriculture, psychology and even acting. After some time, I found out about Mass Com at RVC. Soon enough I found myself heading downstairs in the ERC building, feeling more inspired about “Why the heck I'm going to College”. I loved learning about news, film, and all of the aspects of production. It makes me wish I started Mass Com right after high school. I'm very happy to have gotten the opportunity to be an intern at a local news station, WIFR TV. It was fascinating working there, overwhelming and very fast paced. I was a technical media producer performing tasks such as editing and mic checks. I felt very excited working alongside all the producers, writers, anchors, and weather team. I could see myself working in that environment.
